Job Description

  • Perform routine and complex blood bank testing according to Blood Bank SOPs
  • Organize work-flow to accomplish efficient and accurate reports in a timely manner
  • Problem-solve to achieve acceptable test results by following standard operating procedures
  • Must be a team player and collaborate with other technologists, supervisors, and hospital staff
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Perform quality control on Blood Bank equipment as outlined in SOPs and the Blood Bank QC calendar (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, and as needed)
  • Monitor reagent inventory, ensure reagent QC is performed and acceptable as needed, daily, and prior to release of reagents for testing use.

Qualification for Technologist I, IRLs:


  • MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) /equivalent , bachelors degree with major in biological science or chemistry plus 3 years blood banking experience, or MLT (ASCP) certification plus 5 years laboratory experience required. MT (ASCP) and/or BB (ASCP) or equivalent desired. State license may be required where applicable..
  • Effective communication/interpersonal skill and excellent technical skills required. Computer skills a must. Must be able to work independently and demonstrate independent problem solving skills. Leadership skills. Provide training and guidance to new technologist and technicians.
  • Must be able to work a part time- weekend scheduling & on-call shifts as needed. Full time schedule for training may be required

JayDoc clinic, a free clinic for the underserved Kansas City population, is open every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening. KCCLMA has been providing free lab work for this clinic for 3 years – something NO other lab professional organization does – but it takes volunteers. All we need is one shift a month.

There are many slots open in April, May, & June. Sign up early so you can choose your evenings.
